Daffy Duck and the Jo Gunn Antenna Sagahttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjVN4DdJHks I have used directional antennas of various configurations at my base station for many years. The Jo Gunn antenna that I first operated was a Star series 5 element beam which worked very well. It has superior gain compared to the "cross" type beam that it replaced. The next Jo Gunn antenna to grace the base station was the 6 element V series DX antenna. This antenna out performs anything that I've encountered in the realm of DX. The circular polarization was something new to me; however it has unbelievably good ears and also sends a DX signal that can’t be beat. It is somewhat lacking in the local contacts arena for which it is not intended anyway. After finding that I needed more local access than the V series allows I decided to put up a new tower/rotor package and create a co-phased antenna utilizing my original 5 element Star series and a duplicate Star that the Jo Gunn team custom made for me. This was only the first of the custom tasks that Jo Gunn undertook for my project. They also created the co-phased coax harness system with the associated junction box for the H & V operation. The match is excellent using the Jo Gunn supplied system. |

SKIP TALKERS: I'VE HAD A JO GUNN 2 UP FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS. THIS IS THE BEST BEAM ANTENNA I HAVE TALKED ON. I'VE USED A MOONRAKER, MACO BEAMS, SHOOTING STAR AND ALOT OF GROUND PLANES BUT ALL OF THESE DON'T COMPAIR TO THE JO GUNN 2. IT IS HALF THE SIZE WITH JUST ABOUT THE SAME GAIN. I HAVE MINE 40 FEET OFF OF THE GROUND AND IT WORKS PREFECT VERT AND FLAT. THE FRONT TO BACK SIDE REJECTION IS GREAT FOR LOCAL TALKING. I TALK ALOT OF SKIP AND I DON'T HAVE TO CALL TWICE, IT GETS THEM ON THE FIRST CALL! AFTER 5 YEARS I TOOK IT DOWN AND THE BEAM IS HOLDING UP GREAT, LOOKS LIKE I JUST PUT IT UP! I USE A BROWNING EAGLE MARK 4 AND KICK IT WITH A D&A PHANTOM. LOADS UP GREAT ON POWER FLAT AND VERT. YOU DON'T NEED ALOT OF ROOM TO TURN IT, I HAVE A HAM 4 ROTOR. I HAVE TALKED ALL OVER THE USA . IF A STROM TAKES THIS ONE OUT I WOULD BUY ANOTHER TO TAKE IT'S PLACE. I'VE BEEN CB"ING FOR 41 YEARS AND STILL LOVE IT AND TALK EVERY NIGHT. " FISHIN'BOY " DONNIE GRIBBLE |

Hey! Finally got the stacks up,man...do I ever love the reception and broadcast of these 6`s! Took your advice and went with 18 foot stacking bar.....of course I may have over-done it a bit with 2 sections of Rohn 25,but still love it! I`ve never heard so well at 72 foot ,and all those that have heard them, brag on the clarity and how loud and strong they are! Thanks again! P.S.---anyone interested in stacking some should really consider it strongly! I`m "Black-Dawg" on 27.275 aka Jerry Mann--and I`ll be glad to talk to all who may need to know how this was done and needs any info! Thanks Jogunn I loved the single six but not near as much as them stacked! Dawg!

I have been running beams for about 20 years, I ran a conventional 4 beam for 2 to 3 years. I was changing the coax, and while I had in on the ground we had a strong winds and a trampoline ended up in it. So now I have a SA 7 which is the best antenna I ever been around. Nothing gets into the side or back, EXCELLENT gain! Thanks for your help!

Resiliency and Survivability Key to Radio Enjoyment on the East Coast!
To really enjoy a radio broadcast hobby, you want your equipment to work well when you want to use it. The best radio equipment in the world operates only as good as the antenna system that carries its signal. A poorly constructed antenna system can quickly dishearten the most avid enthusiast and cost hours of valuable radio time and enjoyment in troubleshooting, struggling to achieve low impedance, an optimum feed point match, and most importantly ... resonance in the desired frequency of operation! Once you achieve those critical settings as an operator you want them to remain stable and consistent. As a Space Systems Engineer my two interest areas are Resiliency and Survivability of space systems designs and engineering, which leads me to look for quality material and solid proven design implementation in anything I purchase.
When assembling the Super Audio 8 Flat Side Antenna, I paid special attention to areas of the design that would ultimately be subjected to the often high wind conditions of the North East and Mid-Atlantic. I found a balance of high quality construction materials and a well thought out design implementation that suited a wide range of weather environments. Through the harsh Nor'easters, gale force coastal winds and occasional ice storms, the SA-8 has performed tremendously and most importantly, maintained that performance over time and through a host of conditions! Here are a few pictures of the antenna system I have come to trust to provide years of low maintenance enjoyable hobby time.
Thanks to the design team and staff for saving many of us in the radio community the time, headaches and hassles that accompany inferior antenna products for 10 or 11 meters.

Hi Jogunn....
I love the Pistol antenna! I have mine up about 35 fee and feed with LMR400 coax. I had a bit of a long run so the need for good coax was neccessary. As soon as I put it up I easily doubled my range. The antenna is extremely solid and woud last any wind storms around here. It use it for 10-12 meters and also for CB. The match is incredibly flat for all the bands and the gamma match is easy to set up. The instructions that came with the antenna were easy to understand and it went up in no time. Thanks for such a great antenna. Keep up the great work! Bettina Hamilton, Ontario, Canada |

I bought my antenna about six months ago and I am pleased with it. I have a 4 element conventional vertical. I have found the back and side rejection to be true and very helpful when on tuning my nighbors out and bleed over I cant believe I can make them disapear. They say my modulation got louder and clear with it and I can talk through people when have a contest to see whow is stronger. I actually have two of them and I like both of them. So keep on making them great antennas. Hope to see my pictures on jogunn.

Dear Paul, Melanie and crew, I would like to take this time to thank you for the wonderful customer service and support. You all have been very patient with me in answering my questions about my Killer 8 star and son of a gun. Most of all, I would like to thank you for inventing the Killer 8 star! I have had Wilson laser 500 beams and a set of moon raker 6's and I can tell you they are not in the same league as the giant killer 8 star. Recently, I have compared them to my neighbors 4 element maco shooting star beams in a shoot out and took him out of the picture 55 miles out with a 5 db gain! The beam is built so strong, I do not worry, even when the winds start whipping. I love the son of a gun ground plane equally. I have never seen a ground plane built like this. It is a tank. The quality you are putting out is un-real. The simplicity of putting your antennas together is a dream. I built both of my antennas within 4 hours because you did all of th e measuring and drilling! Both antennas matched in perfect the first time. No adjustments needed! One more thing... NO MUFFLER CLAMPS! I LOVE IT! Thank you again for producing such an animal as the KILLER 8 STAR. I am confident there is NOTHING on the market today that compares. Here are some photos of my Killer 8 star and son of a gunn. Hope to see them posted on your website. I love my beam! Thank you for all of your priceless information in regards to making my station better. The flat side kicks butt! 73's Happy Holidays!
Thanks again, Dave |
